We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you second trimester benchmarks.
With the second trimester wrapping up, we are kicking into review mode. This week there will not be any assigned homework besides reading. The students however, might have some work to complete if they did not finish something in class.
Today I need you to logon to your Think.com account. Once you are there you need to add a poll to your front page. As your classmates add their poll, you need to visit their page and take their polls.
Also I would like you to add a book review for the last book your read. Write a short summary and tell your thoughts about the book. Was it good, bad? Would you recommend it to a friend.
Once you complete those two tasks you can play any math game in our math games section.
Well we have now officially made it through the first trimester. I have been so impressed with the work the y’all have done this trimester. Did you know that over 80% of our class mastered our last smart goal? That is great!
I am looking forward to our second trimester together. I believe that we are going to do some great things. One of the first things we are starting is weekly audio podcast. I cannot wait to get our first one done this week. So stay tuned.

Our class voted and decided that tomorrow (10/30/09) will be PJ Day. So the kids can sleep in a little longer, get up, eat, brush their teeth and come to school. No need to pick out any outfits, just wear their PJs. They will need to make sure to have running shoes, because we will still be participating in PE. If you have any questions please email me.
This week we are starting a novel study. The novel we are going to be reading is Because of Winn Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. We started the book in class today and everyone seems to be excited. The homework will be working on their journal for the story.
Each night they will need to complete their journal entries for the chapters that we read in class. I will post the chapters each day and a copy of their journal. Today we read chapter 1-5. Here is a copy of the journal. We will be pulling our spelling/vocabulary words but we will NOT have any spelling homework this week.

Monday: Math Review Game/Blog game
Tuesday – Thursday: Review packet (DUE FRIDAY!!)
Genre Project due FRIDAY! If you cannot your directions they are available here. The directions are borrowed from Mrs. Renz, a fourth grade teacher from Oregon. Her wonderful website is full of many great resources. Check it out.
